In July 2015, Emeril Lagasse Foundation granted $20,000 to Evacuteer, a New Orleans non-profit organization founded to help support post-Katrina evacuation procedures by raising funds for hurricane “EvacuSpots” inside the city. As part of the initiative, and in anticipation of Katrina’s 10th anniversary, Evacuteer recently launched “Love, Write, Light,” a community fundraising campaign that gives New Orleanians the opportunity to share stories of the city’s recovery through letters and photographs.
As one of the first residents of the Warehouse District neighborhood, Chef Emeril Lagasse has seen first-hand the growth and progress of New Orleans since arriving in the city in the early 1980s. The unrivaled community, cuisine and culture of the city set the foundation for his passion for food and continue to inspire him daily. You can read Chef Emeril's own letter to New Orleans here.
