The two time James Beard nominated Chef/Owner of Coquette in New Orleans, Michael Stoltzfus has a very unorthodox culinary background. To begin with, Stoltzfus is a self taught chef who learned to cook primarily from the plethora of cookbooks he purchased.  Unlike most talented chefs who bounce between top kitchens before opening their own restaurants, Stoltzfus has only cooked at one noteworthy restaurant, albeit a distinguished one, before opening his New Orleans showcase, Coquette. 

Stoltzfus’ deft cooking earned his restaurant a four bean rating from Times Picayune Restaurant Critic Brett Anderson and a review brimming with superlatives.  Several glowing reviews have followed for this self-taught chef and they have all been capped off by back to back James Beard nominations for Best Chef in the South in both 2013 and 2014.  Recently Chef Stoltzfus was given the coveted title of New Orleans Magazine “2013 Chef of the Year.”
