Donor Spotlight: Drs. Scott Sullivan and Michele Cooper

Through personal donations, corporate gifts and sponsorships, our generous donors contribute in many ways to the overall success and mission of the Emeril Lagasse Foundation.

Our latest donor spotlight series showcases the work of Drs. Scott Sullivan and Michele Cooper, long-time donors who have contributed graciously to the Foundation over the years.

Dr. Scott Sullivan holds a medical degree from LSU Medical School and completed his general and plastic surgery residencies at LSU Charity Hospital. He later co-founded the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery and the St. Charles Surgical Hospital – two institutions dedicated to providing the most innovative, stress-reducing breast reconstruction methods for women being treated for breast cancer and their families.

Dr. Michele Cooper is a graduate of University of Maryland Medical School and completed her training in general surgery and plastic surgery at LSU Charity Hospital. She later completed a fellowship in pediatric craniofacial surgery at Children’s Hospital New Orleans and became the first female plastic surgeon on the craniofacial team at CHNO. Dr. Cooper currently practices cosmetic surgery in Mandeville and Slidell, Louisiana.

With a deeply ingrained love of great food, wine, social gatherings and philanthropy, it comes as no surprise that New Orleans-born Dr. Scott Sullivan chose to support a charity that covers all of those elements under one umbrella.

“The lagniappe is the rich tradition of Emeril Lagasse and the Foundation to give back to the community through education, vocational training and aid to those with special needs, all of which is consistent with the charitable beliefs of myself and my wife, Michele,” said Dr. Sullivan. “Once we attended Carnivale du Vin several years ago, we became even more impressed with the quality of the event and of utmost importance, the quality of the Foundation’s work. We have sponsored the event every year since.

Given Scott and Michele’s long-standing support of the Foundation, Chef Emeril also found a way to show his gratitude for the couple’s generosity by lending a hand to some of Dr. Sullivan’s cancer patients who started a charitable foundation called Breastoration through the American Cancer Society.

With Chef Emeril’s support of the organization, Breastoration has helped thousands of women with breast cancer in Louisiana.

“From our involvement in the Foundation, it’s clear to me that Emeril wants to make a difference and to help others,” said Dr. Cooper. “Scott and I have a similar philosophy that during our short time on this planet, our greatest strength and contribution is helping others achieve success, whether that is through curing their cancer and rebuilding what was removed, providing a higher education, providing guidance and wisdom, providing food, or simply providing hope and love."

Recently, Drs. Sullivan and Cooper became members of the Foundation’s newly-established Advisory Committee.

“We are honored to be a part of the Foundation’s Advisory Committee,” said Dr. Cooper. “By working with this amazing panel of people, we hope to help expand the reach of the Foundation and create new opportunities to further its impact.

Among a long list of awards and accolades between the couple, the American Cancer Society named Dr. Sullivan a spirit award honoree for going above and beyond in the fight against cancer, and Dr. Cooper has been named the ‘Top Plastic Surgeon on the Northshore’ by Sophisticated Woman annually since 2013.

In addition to their invaluable roles within the Foundation and medical field, Drs. Sullivan and Cooper are the parents of two amazing daughters, Alexis and Elle. They also contribute time to many other Louisiana charities that support food assistance, safe housing, education and medical care for those in need.

The Emeril Lagasse Foundation is endlessly grateful for the continued support of donors like Drs. Sullivan and Cooper who help move our mission forward. Learn more about how you can get involved or make a donation by visiting our Get Involved page.
