Backstage Boudin Broadcast: Meet the Chefs

We have a special treat for today's "Backstage Boudin Broadcast,” featuring two of New Orleans' best chefs! Chef Kristen Essig of Meauxbar and Chef Alex Harrell of Sylvain will be collaborating together this year on a boudin-inspired dish at Boudin, Bourbon & Beer. Check out their quickfire interviews below.

Name: Alex Harrell

Restaurant: Sylvain

Years participating: 2nd year

Can you tell us what you’re cooking this year: “Not sure what we’re cooking yet, but we do know there will be rice involved”

What would be your “Last Supper?”- “My grandma had a farm and always had fresh potatoes. She would make this creamed new potatoes dish with a cheesy béchamel sauce & marinated cucumbers with vegetable oil, salt and pepper on the side. The dishes went perfectly together and I’ve tried to re-create it many times but can never make it as good as her.

Name: Kristen Essig

Restaurant: Meauxbar

Years participating: 2nd year

Can you tell us what you’re cooking this year?: “Not sure what we’re cooking yet, but we do know there will be rice involved”

What is the worst meal you’ve ever made?- “When I was really young, like 12 year old, I used to test recipes all the time. My mom would always buy potatoes to test my recipes with. One day I was making potato soup and I wanted to test the temperature of the soup- so I used a real thermometer, one for humans. Well of course, it exploded mercury all over and in the soup.”
